These coin replicas are cast or struck from pewter, and adhere closely to the originals struck in the 11th through the 15th century, while being differenced enough from originals that they could not be mistaken for the genuine article. They retain a pleasing "ring" to them, when tossed onto a table or jingled in a bag, and are well suited for interpretive work, or for use at gaming at the tables, or to be given out as tokens of worth. Compaignye du Chalis has taken to gambling at the backgammon tables with them, for a penny a checker not bourne off the board, and it definitely adds to the experience without the boorishness of modern cash trading hands.
