Dates of Mintage 1279-1310 Represented Worth: 1 penny sterling
Extended Description
Replica Edward I penny hammered from lead free pewter. This replica coin is 18mm side to side, and approximately 1mm in thickness. King Edward--the "Longshanks" or "Hammer of the Scots"--ruled from 1272 to 1307. He engaged on a strenuous program of consolidation of the British Isles, but was unable to effect the submission of Scotland. He also engaged in military excursions in Outremer, but these were inconclusive. He was renowned as a personally courageous man at arms. His personal treasure was stolen in 1303, which scandal resulted in a huge trial, and resulted in a small flood of coin (and other valuables) into the economy.
