Dates of Mintage 1066?-1087 Represented Worth: 1 penny sterling
Extended Description
William I penny cast from lead free pewter. I have gotten a lot of interest in a 11th Century penny replica, and here is one. This is the "bonnet-style" short cross penny of William I. I am uncertain of the exact mintage dates, but he ruled for about 21 years in the latter half of the 11th century. The obverse inscription reads PILLEMVS REX (P being the character "wynn," read as "W").
